Out with the old and In with the New Part Deux

This is the series where I throw out stuff I will never use and regretted wasting my money on. I am going to try and do this every quarter.

On to Part Deux!

I swatched this heavily on the left and rubbed it in on the right and as you can see, it is no sheer at all! It doesn't do anything for my skin and I don't reach for it. I honestly have no idea why I bought this...

I want to reiterate this is a lip pencil not an eye pencil. Why would you put a dark brown color on your lips?!? The only reason why I kept this pencil so long was because I told myself I would use the shimmery side but alas I never did even though it sat in my "daily use drawer"

I had high hopes that this eyelash serum would work as well as the L'Oreal one but this one irritated my eyes and didn't do much for my lashes. In the trash it goes.

I hated this eyelash primer. It weighed my lashes down and made my mascara clumpy. Glad it was only a sample.

Yet another ELF product. The concealers are very cakey and thick. The shades don't really match my skin color and if you try to put something over these they mix into this very weird color. Not attractive at all.

I thought this would make a really pretty highlighter. The product in the tube separates and you have to shake it before you squeeze it out. It doesn't apply smoothly. I put a sheer layer next to the thick swatch but it doesn't blend very well.

I am happy to finally get rid of these duds however it upsets me that I wasted my money on these things. It is the inexpensive items that get you!

March 2012 Empties

I accomplished a lot this month, my small sephora baggie didn't hold it all! I am glad its time to empty it out! =)

The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner: My review here. I have one more backup of this toner and I will be breaking it. I have to have this toner on hand. I don't use it everyday but it works great at refreshing my skin and clearing it of any residue from the day.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion: I absolutely love this lotion. It for the most part doesn't have a scent, except for maybe oats smell which you barely notice. It is hydrating for my dry skin and sinks it well. I bought this huge bottle at costco. I want to try the Cetaphil next but I will definitely repurchase this once I finish my BBW lotions!

BBW Wild Honeysuckle Triple Moisture Body Cream: This is my favorite BBW product ever! The none triple moisture creams are not moisturizing at all. This body lotion very hydrating and I love the layer of protection it leaves on my legs. I absolutely LOVEEE this scent! Next time they go on sale I am going to buy a bunch of backups! I apply it before I sleep and the scent lingers on my blanket and makes my room smell like honeysuckle. I urge everyone to smell this! It is absolutely to die for!!

The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover: I bought this in Spring 2011 and it has taken me quite some time to finish it. Granted I don't use this as often as I use to. I bought this as a cheaper replacement for my MUFE makeup remover. I do like this but I think the MUFE works just a tad better. This makeup remover doesn't irritate my lashes but at the same time it isn't very conditioning. I like it but I won't be repurchasing this anytime soon.

Claudalie Toning Lotion: It took me a very long time to finish this bottle of toner. I will have a review of it soon. It has a pleasant scent and is refreshing. Toners is something I am very fickle about. I don't know if I will ever get around to repurchasing this but it is something I would recommend. =)

Sonia Kashuk eye makeup remover: I emptied out two bottles of eye makeup remover this month! I absolutely love the makeup remover! It is very comparable to the Lancome Bi-Facil and it costs $10 for that large bottle. This is my second bottle of this makeup remover so a repurchase is a definite. I have to go out of my way to get to a target so I don't have a replacement yet. I am going to keep the bottle because I like that it is tall and slim, it takes up very little room on my already small table. I have already put the Neutrogena makeup remover in this bottle. =)

Lancome Bi-Facil: I cult favorite and I understand why it is so loved. I most likely will never purchase the full size since I found my beloved SK remover. I still have a bunch of these little bottles from GWP.

Avon hydrating booster: I have a mini review here. As mentioned I could live without the scent. It takes a while to sink in and leaves my face feeling tacky. I use this mostly at night. I still have 2 more backups and I will be glad when these are done. =)

Sekkisei Facial Liquid Wash: I liked this face wash but I think I prefer my Shiseido White Lucent face wash. It doesn't foam up enough for my me.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil: This is my second bottle of this and when I first got it I loved it. Lately I feel it doesn't work as well on me anymore. I might try a more concentrated version next.

Etude House Collagen Moistful: I like this cream a lot. It is very light but moisturizing, it sinks in well but doesn't completely disappear after 10 mins. One of the things I absolutely love about this is it smells like oranges. When you first cut open an orange and the instant the orange citrus smell hits your nostrils is what this smells like. It doesn't smell artificial and does stand out for me. I am going to put this on my list of things to buy. =)

Perricone MD Cold Plasma: It is very light and absorbs quickly however it isn't moisturizing enough alone for my skin.

Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream: The smell is typical for any asian skincare cream product... lol, has a light face cream smell is the best I can explain it... (I hope you girls understand what I am trying to say) It absorbs quickly and would be a good cream for the warmer months since it is made for normal/combo skin. I would consider purchasing this. =)

DHC Co enzyme Q10 Creme: The "creme" comes out yellow and smells horrible. It is definitely more of an oil than a cream. It smells absolutely horrible. I put a bit on my face and it went on so greasy. It left my fingers greasy and it just sat on my skin. If I accidentally touched my face, my hand will have that greasy consistency. It didn't sink in at all. After a while my face was getting kind of tingly, at which point I decided to wipe it off with a toner. Absolutely horrible. I can still smell the "creme" after wiping it down.

Pangea Organics Facial Cream: This cream smells very woodsie. It is very strong and not very pleasant. It goes on very tacky and light.

Burts Bee Radiance Day Cream: I absolutely love this! It sinks it quickly, has spf 15, and smells great! It isn't oily so I can use it before my foundation in the mornings and the little bit of spf helps me feel not as guilty when I forget to slap one on. I will definitely pick up a full size of this soon!

Strivectin Neck Cream: I don't think this really does anything. I got this in a set when I bought the Stivectin-SD cream. I was hoping it would help prevent any neck wrinkles but I don't think it really does anything and it doesn't smell very pleasant though it is tolerable.

Ponds Wet Cleansing Towelettes: Hate the smell, it irritates my skin and it doesn't remove makeup very well. I used this to remove swatches on my hand and it even irritated the skin on my hand!

MJ Lash Expander Frame Plus: One of my HG mascaras I will always have this on hand. Currently working on my backups. (Two left! ><) It is hard for me to get here in NY so I stock up every time I hear someone is going to an asia country. =D

Skin 79 BB cream: I had this sample for a while. I don't particularly think this is a great BB cream. In my opinion is it just okay. Won't repurchase this.

Mac Slim shine in Missy: I am so proud of this! I finally finished one lipstick!!! Hurrah for meeeeee!!!!! I really got in there with a lip brush too. I made a lot of orange lipstick purchases lately so I am glad I used this up first.

Phew! That was a long post to do. I love doing empties posts and I think I had a very successful month. It is the last month of the quarter so I wanted to finish it with a bang! Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed doing it. =D

Project 5 Lips: 1/5

How many empties do you have for the month?

My First Tag!!

So I think I got tagged by So lonely In Gorgeous for what I am going to guess the tag is My first tag? So since this would be my first tag I suppose I don't have a choice and must answer the following questions!

1. How did you come up with your blog's name?
Honestly I had no idea, but I do have OCD when I get attached to something. So it seemed fitting. For example, I will put a song on repeat till I get sick of it. hehe

2. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
I am going to cheat and pretend she asked what are my favorite flavors~~
Pumpkin (comes out around Autumn) Red Bean, Green Tea (the ones they serve at this japanese chain called ichi-umi) Mango, Pralines n Cream, Baskin Robbins Love Potion 21 (comes out around Valentines Day)

I wonder if anyone noticed I love ice cream xD

3. What's your favorite physical feature?
Hmmm.... Can I say my hair?? I am very proud of it! If that doesn't count then.... my lips. I have very pouty lips. =D

4. What's the strangest thing you've eaten?
Hmmm... well a lot of things I've eaten that people might think it's strange but I think of as normal but I will go with what sounds the weirdest.... pigs blood. It is like made into gelatin like texture. I'm not particularly found of it but it does sound kind of disturbing... haha

5. What are your favorite blushes to wear during Spring?
I don't have a particular blush in mind, but I prefer the bright oranges and red blushes along with your typical coral colors.

6. How many lipsticks do you own?
Oh dear... I am going to count.... if your reading this you might want to go get a drink right about now. *Arbitrary passage of time* Wow! I have 18 lipsticks (Bullet form), 1 stila red lipstick palette, 7 Stila convertible colors in palettes. I think that's not too bad. =D

7. What are some cosmetic products that you continue to repurchase?
Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus mascara
Shu Uemura eyelash curler
NYX single shadow in Iced Mocha

8. Do you have any siblings?
Ah... my little brother... we fought our entire lives... bloody noses and bruised arms as kids, and a dependable fella as an adult. He has his idiotic moments, (what does celery look like?) but I love him. Shhhh! No one tell him that!

9. If you could meet any famous/infamous person in history (either living or deceased), who would you meet?
. . . . .  *complete blank* . . . . .

10. Blanket or snuggie?
I don't own a snuggie but I love my pillows and blankets. In the wintertime, there is nothing better than a big poofy blankey and a soft pillow!

11. What's your all time favorite thing to wear (i.e. clothing. makeup, nail polish, shoes, perfume...etc)?
I won't cheat and only pick one thing: eyeliner. I always have eyeliner on when I go out. I can wear it anywhere and everywhere I go... (except when I am being a pig and lounging at home)

Bonus question:  A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi?
Not a big star wars fan. I didn't even know one of the movies was called A New hope... (waits for the onslaught of Boos)

Phew! That was exhausting but lots of fun! I am going to make my own questions, I hope you will answer them!

1. Do you remember your first stuffed animal?
2. If you have to recommend one place to eat where would it be?
3. What place do you want to visit next and why?
4. If you could only have five makeup products which five would it be?
5. Would you prefer to have a dog or cat?
6. What is your favorite fairy tale?
7. What is something you secretly love but rather not admit it? (Come clean woman!)
8. When was the last time you wrote a hand written letter?
9. Did you end up with a career you studied in uni?
10. What is the one cosmetic item you own most in quantity?
11. What is the last picture that you took?

I don't think any post is complete without a few random pictures.

Love these chocolates!

What stuff animals do when your not around....

They expect kids to eat these?!

Lastly something inspirational =)

Special Edition Birchbox

Last week I got an email invite from Birchbox to attend an event at the Dermalogica boutique in soho.

110 Grand St
(between Broadway & Mercer St)
New York, NY 10013

It was a nice event, we drank wine and had a few bites to eat.

There was also a photobooth set up by where guests could take Polaroids!

They offered a 20% discount throughout the shop but there wasn't anything I really wanted to try. On our way out we received a Birchbox with some Dermalogical samples!

(I admit this was the reason why I went! I admit it! I love freebies!)

They were mostly anti aging products so I don't know if I will use them or give them away yet. I love the little pouch it came with. I might make that my extra makeup bag for short trips!

Dior Show Heat Curl

I love heated curlers. I think they give my lashes a little extra to hold the curl all day and all night long. However my old CVS Essence of Beauty one eats through batteries so quickly and it doesn't heat up as much as I would like it to.

So when I got the email about Dior coming out with a heated eyelash curler, I couldn't pass this opportunity up!

I had it for almost a week now and I absolutely love it. It heats up quickly and stays hot, the indicator light is very strong and so far the battery has held up. One of the things I hated about my old heater curler was how fast it drains the battery.

Although the instruction says the light will turn green when hot, mine never turns green even when it is hot. I tried leaving it on and it never seemed to turn green... weird....

If you ever need a heater curler I highly recommend this one. At $25 it is most definitely worth it! =D

I purchased mine at Sephora, I will link it below.

Sephora + Pantone Tangerine Tango Cream Lipstick

So you might know I was looking for an orange lipstick and when Sephora sent me this email, I couldn't pass this up.

The lipstick's white case is really heavy. Uncapped the actual bullet weights almost nothing compared to the cap. It has a magnetic closure which screams luxurious. Only downside is it is also I bit bulky for my taste.

The color is absolutely beautiful!

Right 2 swipes of Revlon Tutti Frutti, center 1 swipe of Tutti Frutti, 1 swipe of Tangerine Tango

Tangerine Tango swatched beautifully. It was opaque in one swipe and its rich and smooth. It didn't ball up like the Revlon did in certain areas. It has a light candy gummy bear smell which I adore.

I can't wait to use this lipstick! I will try and do a FOTD with it very soon! =)

Smorgas chef

For a friends birthday (its just an excuse to go pig out!) I picked this restaurant to try.

53 Stone St
(between Coenties Aly & Mill Ln)
New York, NY 10004
(212) 422-3500

It is Scandanvian cusine, something we have never tried before so it was a treat for us all.

My friend Helen and I arrived early so we decided to get an appitizer to start since puntuality isnt a priority with my friends.

poached farm eggs, Blenheim arugula, oyster mushrooms, crispy pancetta

I got bites that was bitter and bites that was overly salted. Overall a decent dish, I wish it was seasoned thoroughly.

They were still running resturant week menu which was nice. Two of my friends decided to try it and we had two other appitizers to try.

I think it was lentil soup.

The soup was okay. It wasn't anything spectacular.

house cured salmon, horseradish creme, potato croquettes

The salmon tasted like smoked salmon and I liked it but my friends thought otherwise. The giant patty like object was a cracker and it was very hard. One of my friends took a liking to it but it didn't appeal to me.

On to the entrees!

gravlaks, jansson’s potato, swedish meatballs, herring, traditional accompaniments

This was my entree choice. I originally wanted this as an appetizer but I decided not to cause our waiter any trouble. It is surprising like the appitizer that we ordered earlier. I did like the swedish meatballs and the herring. The giant cookie like biscuit left unloved.

sorrel mashed potatoes, oyster mushrooms, juniper sauce

The salmon was good, typical salmon dish. The mash potatoes had us all very puzzled. It tasted very "green" and "earthly" but we couldn't figure out what was in it. It was very good nonetheless.

I can't seem to find the description for this but it was basically chicken with really salty kale. =D

shallots, shaved garlic, tarragon, white wine cream broth 16

Mussels and fries!?! oh yes please! I have nothing bad to say about this, like every other mussel dish and who doesn't love fries?

Cloudberry preserve, chantilly cream

I was most excited about the waffles that I forgot to take a picture before I dug in! It was softer and "soggier" than I imagined but still very good! The preserve was a little sweet for my liking but its a preserve so its expected. The chantilly cream was light and had the most delightful consistency.

My friend had the Nutella Crepes. It was pretty good. I am not a fan of Nutella.

We also had another dessert which was the almond cake.

Marzipan cake, raspberry jam, whipped cream

I personally did not like the almond cake but my friend that ordered it liked it. It had too much almond flavoring for me.

Oh! This bathroom sign gave me a good laugh so I thought I would share. =)

Phew! This was a long post in the making. I did enjoy this restaurant and the cuisine was a nice experience. I hope to try the other Smorgas Chef's in the city one day!
