July 2012 Empties

I can't believe its the end of July! I am still writing the wrong months on things! haha

I have quite a few this month that I am very proud to finish!

ELF Complexion Perfection - I think this is my 3rd one of these. I have one backup left to go through. I am going to toss this because the green shade is almost gone. I don't particularly try and dip into this shade but my pan always shows through here.

Oscar Longlash Mascara - Last month I opened the Antoinette volume mascara, I decided to see of the Oscar Longlash mascara was okay. Sadly this also is dried out. I never opened these so I am kind of upset.
Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing - I finished this tube! I won't be repurchasing this mascara. I have a review of the mascara here.
Mac Liquid Last - My favorite ultra budge proof liquid liner. I already repurchase this the day it ran out!
Maybelline Line Stiletto - This has a similar brush like the Lancome Artliner. I do like this liner however it transfers slightly and fades after a few hours of wear.

L'egere Multi White BB Creme - This tube refused to die! I been trying to finish this for months! I was determined to finish this BB creme before I moved to my Dior Snow BB creme Jenn got for me from Korea! I have a review of this item here

The Body Shop Tea Tree Cleanser - This was a mini I got in a set a while ago and I was pulled it out to finish it. The smell is strong but you can easily get use to it. I grown to love this cleanser. I have another acne cleanser I need to finish but I will definitely be repurchasing this cleanser. It foams slightly and leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean.

Crabtree & Evelyn Citron Honey & Coriander Conditioner - I grabbed these from a hotel. (Forgot which and where) This is an okay conditioner. What sold me was the scent. I love the smell of this line! I know they have a website and this is a U.K. brand. The Costa Rican Duty Free carried this brand however it didn't have this scent. I would love to get this in a body lotion!

Clear Care Contact Solution - This is not your typical contact solution. You soak this in a special case for a minimum of 6 hours and your contacts will feel brand new! The lady at my optometrist recommended this to me when I complained my contacts irritated me after a wearing it for an extended time period. It removes protein buildup on your contacts. This is a must have staple and I always make sure to have some, especially when I am on vacation.

Sensodyne - My dad bought a bulk package of this type of toothpaste a while back but no one wants to use it! I am trying to get through them. Finishing a tube of toothpaste on your own is hard! lol The mini one I took on vacation and polished it off.

That's it for July! I think I had a good empties month! What items did you finish this month?

Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing Review

I love Majolica Majorca and my favorite mascara is their Lash Expander Frame Plus. I have tried other mascaras by their brand and I thought I would mention one of them here.

The brush on this mascara is the typical style you would see on a normal mascara.

I will be judging this mascara on three criterias. Length, Volume and Curl

It is a mascara that has lots of fibers, I find has more fibers than the expander frame plus. This is a great mascara if you want something to lengthen your lashes. It does provide a little bit of volume but not much.

I do find that it can be a little difficult to get a good coat on your lashes. Each coat only puts on a small amount of mascara. I do find this to be a layer-able mascara. I can put 2-3 coats on without a problem.

Now the most important part of mascara criteria. Does it hold a curl?

Not really... I find that it tends to droop my lashes around 2 hour mark, however for you girls who may not need it to hold a curl like hairspray to a hairdo then you will like this mascara.

I would definitely recommend this mascara to most girls and it is a good mascara. As for me, this doesn't do enough to merit a repurchase.

Curl: 6/10
Lengthening: 9/10
Volume: 7/10
Results: 7/10
Packaging: 9/10 (I think Majolica Majorca is so adorable!)
Price: 7/10 $20 (I bought this when I was in Taiwan for $11 but you can order it online at imomoko)
Scent and Texture: 9/10 (not much of a scent)
Repurchase: No
Holy Grail: No

After curl before Mascara

2 coats of mascara

Haul From Rach

I was browsing Rach (Cupcakesandsissorsblog sale and I saw the Lightscapade MSF. I never owned a MSF before mostly because shimmery blushes turn me off. This one would make a nice highlight so I decided to make the jump.

I also grabbed two nail polishes because how can I only pick up one item???

A little bit of Taiwan in my Life

I have been studying at my friends house a few times a week and her sister recently came back from Taiwan with this scrumptious dessert!

It has a flakey exterior topped with sesame seeds. The dark red part is smooth dense red bean paste. It reminds me of the lotus bean paste like Chinese moon cakes. The center is a soft green tea mochi. The balance of crispy exterior, dense red bean and soft mochi was divine!!!

I love Taiwanese snacks and I hope to make more discoveries soon!!!

Nail Stickers!

Occasionally I use nail stickers when I'm too lazy to paint and dry my nails.  They are definitely easy to apply but I hate that they never come in my nail size.  Once, I helped a friend apply Sephora by O.P.I. nail stickers and all of them fitted her nails perfectly!  I usually have to cut them to match my nail size before I apply them.  Also, I do not buy the solid color ones or those that are too simple because why waste the money when it's just another easy paint job.  My go-to brand for nail stickers is Nail Rock.  I buy them from ASOS whenever they're on sale (about $6-7) because regularly they are quiet pricey (about $11-13).  Recently, I bought these Hawaiian inspired nail stickers...

Pampering in Flight

Whenever I go on a trip (flight/bus/long drive), I always take the time to do pamper myself. In truth couple hours of nothing but sitting there can be very dull so I find ways to amuse myself.

Recently I flew to Costa Rica and this is what I took as my carry on liquids.

I got to check one bag so I kept all my other necessities in there. This baggie just held the things I wanted to use for the flight.

The products themselves are not important. I choose these products because I wanted to finish them/ they were small and handy to have around.

You will need a serum, toner, moisturizer, eye cream, cuticle oil and hand cream.

From Left to Right
1. Swedish Skin Apple Rejuvenation Serum
2. Avon Cuticle Oil Pen
3. L'Oreal Lash Serum
4. Kanebo Whitening Lotion (Toner I transferred mine to this little bottle)
5. Kiehl's Dark Spot Correcter (Serum)
6. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
7. Juice Beauty Blemish Be Gone
8. StriVectin SD Eye Cream

If you a wearing makeup just remember to take it off before you start this routine. I usually won't wear makeup pre-flight but will bring it to put on before we land.

First thing I do is use the Toner to wipe off any residue I might have left on my skin. (I brought a couple of cotton rounds but if you don't have any just use a tissue. Second I apply the serum of my choice, in this case I put on the Kiehl's Dark Spot Correcter and once that is absorbed into my skin I put the Apple Serum. (I was attempting to finish this bottle but normally it is your own preference how many serums you use)
While that is absorbing in, I use my Cuticle pen to brush a little on my nails and cuticle area. My hands get really dry on the plane and I most definitely don't want dry nails. If you don't have this type of product or don't want to carry it, This would be the time to apply a light layer of hand cream.
I was facing some breakouts so I brought my Blemish Be Gone stick and spot treated.
This is the part that may differ. I normally carry a few paper face masks with me but on this trip there were a lot of people on the flight so I was uWhncomfortable using it. In this case I applied a THICK layer of my Clinique moisturizer as a mask and just left it on my face. I also put on a thick layer on eye cream.
After that is all done, I apply a good about of hand cream and take a nap! (Or read)
(If you forgot your hand cream, your moisturizer will work also)

For longer flights (5+ hours) I might redo this routine later in the flight.

Tip: If your flying make sure the part of the bottle where the product comes out is facing up. I made that mistake with my eye cream and the juice beauty treatment and it exploded out when I opened them on the plane.

Do you have an travel routine? Please let me know! I am always looking to change things up!

Birchbox July 2012

Another month another Birchbox!

I think I might take a break from my Birchbox next month... I am facing mini overload... lol

This dual color lipstick is kind of disturbing... I guess if it was a more flattering color I might enjoy it more...

I am very happy to have an extra pair of ear buds! I break a pair every few months.

I am also looking forward to trying the Ahava mask!

How do you feel about mini overload???

Surprise package from Liz!!!

So I came home to a yellow slip a few days ago asking me to go to the post office and I finally got around to it yesterday.

It was a surprise package from Liz!!! I squealed with excitement when I saw the address!

She sent me the mascara I wanted to try after reading her reviews! (Check it out here)

I only had a chance to try it once so I don't know how I feel about it yet.

She also sent me this adorable palette!

I am loving this palette! The shadows are velvety and the darkest color is very pigmented!

Dear Liz,
Thank you so much for thinking of me! I sent you a small thank you package I hope you like the contents!

Kulu Desserts and Instagraming!?!

I always wanted to learn to make block pictures like the one below and I've seen many people post Instagram pictures like these! Recently watched a video by NikkiPhillippi that explained how to make these types of pictures. (Also Jacq has me addicted to Instagraming pictures!)

I wanted to tell you guys about my this dessert place.

806 62 St
Brooklyn, NY 11220
(718) 680-2818

It has the most adorable decor! The following window like picture is really just a wall that they spruced up.

This is my regular order! I think it is called the Kulu Special or something to that respect.

You can choose between coconut juice or mango juice with a scoop of ice cream in the middle. It also contains a lot of sago and a variety of FRESH seasonal fruits! Ranging from kiwi, dragon fruit, papaya, watermelon, peaches, mangos etc etc!

I am enjoying posts like these! I hope to do more soon! ^^

Out with the old and In with the New Part Trois

Part Trois of Out with the Old and In with the New!

For those unfamiliar with what is going on, this is a quarterly series about that gives me an excuse to finally throw out stuff I will never use in my collection and recognize I wasted my money on them.

Onto Part Trois!

June 2012 Empties

A very late Empties post. I apologize for being M.I.A. A short trip to Toronto coupled with Independence Week and a sprinkle of procrastination is a bad combination....

Onto the Empties!

Since I was away half the month I separated my vacation empties.

I finished a Travel size bottle of Nivea bottle lotion, a small bottle of conditioner I swiped from some hotel room.

You might recognize the lip gloss from my Project 5 lips. Sadly the tube broke so I had to throw it away but considering it was pretty empty to begin with I am going to count that. =D

My little cousin broke my NYX gloss in Apricot which I had to throw out before I could take a picture. I won't be counting that in Project 5 lips because it was still pretty full before its sad demise.

I have been hoping to finish this moisturizer for months! I absolutely hate this. It leaves your face so greasy and shiny. It doesn't absorb well and even after applying foundation and powder on top it still makes my face look unattractively shiny. So glad I finally finished it and I will not recommend this to my worst enemy.

I polished off three masks, nothing spectacular and not on my repurchase list.

The particular Missha Raspberry mask had very little serum on it. It was kind of disappointing considering the pretty packaging.

I got this as a freebie with some other purchases. I let me friend use this mask and after about 30 minutes the mask was still dripping with serum. She didn't particular like or dislike the effects.

I picked these up when I was last in Beijing. It was on sale and I do like them. The perfume is strong but not unpleasant.

I brought this mascara for my friend to use since it offers volume but no length. After opening the tube it was completely dry. Very disappointing. The mascara did have a very nice lychee scent. I found it very pleasant.

This is my last bottle of this apple serum and I know this its been discontinued. I love the smell but I am glad to get rid of this bottle.

Finally I have some samples that I polished off during this visit.

Small packet of Peter Thomas Roth Sunscreen. Wasn't particularly impressive and it had the a sunscreen smell and shine that I don't find particular attractive.

I used this on the flight home and I think I really like this! I put on a thick layer to act like a mask. My friend offered to give me some to try again to see how much I like this product and whether or not it merits the effort to try and get my hands on this. haha

I finished this Claudalie eye cream. It is somewhat thick and hydrating but nothing that wow-ed me enough for a repurchase. A little of this does go a long way.

That is it for the items I used up while I was in Costa Rica.

I only finished two things while after coming home to NY but I am still very proud of myself! haha

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner - I liked this a lot. It took a very long time to get through it. I used it every time I washed my hair unless I was in such a hurry I couldn't spare the 3 minutes. (Everyone has those mornings....) This left my hair really soft and supple. I squirt a big dollop onto my hand and run it through my hair from my neck downwards and use the remaining product on the hair attached to my scalp.

I have heard that there is this agent that bonds a "plastic like coating" to your hair that gives it the soft and shine. It did put me off a bit but I still enjoyed it a lot. I have a bunch of other conditioners to get through so I won't be repurchasing this anytime soon. I do find that if I  leave my other conditioners on as long as I do this one, it gives a similar effect. (Though not as good) I think this only set me back $3 and it lasted a very long time considering the length of my hair.

(Update: After not using a deep conditioner for about 2 weeks I noticed a significant reduction of the smoothness and silkiness of my hair. I think I am addicted to using a deep conditioner and thus I managed to locate another type in my stash which I am currently loving)

The last thing I finished this month was this mini bottle of Pink Eau de Parfum from Victoria Secret. I got one of those variety sets for Christmas a few years back. I am not into Victoria Secret Perfumes but the little bottles made it very easy to carry around. With the hot weather, it is good to have a pleasant scent excrete out of your pores instead of just sweat. lol

I will try to get back into blogging this month. I have a bunch of posts that are currently in progress... just need the motivation to finish them! On another note, I am thinking of switching to short quick blog posts more often. What do you girls think???

Love Always

A few weeks ago, I attempted to paint a sunset on my nails.  It came out looking like candy corns.  Then a few days ago, a friend sent me a gorgeous picture she took of the sunset.  I decided to give it another try.  I'm really happy with the outcome this time around!
