May 2012 Empties

End of the month and time for another empties post!

The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream - I bought this late last summer and I am glad I finally finished it. I didn't use it consistently till the last few months. It claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. I have some fine lines underneath my right eye and mild dark circles. I don't think it does anything except moisturize my eye area.
Repurchase: No

The Body Shop Rain Forest Balance Shampoo for Oily Hair: I bought this travel size bottle last January, the oily hair part caught my eye. Most brands don't come out with a shampoo for oily hair. Dry, Damaged, Colored but not oily. I thought I would give it a try. I took it on vacation with me and hated it. It didn't do much for my oils and I still had a dandruff problem. I pulled it out recently and this in combination with a dandruff shampoo works wonders! If you have mildly oily hair I think this might help but it isn't a miracle worker.
Repurchase: No

Witch Hazel: Saw this small bottle at Bed Bath & Beyond and decided it would be nice to try out. The smell is overwhelming at first but it doesn't linger. After I got use to the smell I loved it. It cleans away impurities and its more gentle than The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner that I love. After I finish my backup Tea Tree Toner I will be permanently switching to Witch Hazel.
Repurchase: Yes! New Staple!

Neutrogena Makeup Remover: I am down to my last bottle. It does it job but I like the Sonia Kashuk one more. I just have easier access to this one.
Repurchase: If I can't get my hands on the Sonia Kashuk one Yes

Caudalie Vinoexpert Night Infusion Cream: This is a small size from one of those sets. I love this line. When I broke out last month I switched completely to Caudalie skin care to calm my skin down and get it back to normal. It won't be moisturizing enough if you have super dry skin but it is a great product.
Repurchase: Yes

Shiseido Facial Cotton: I had this bag laying around and I started using it again. I remembered how much I loved them. It is thicker than the cheaper cotton squares and it is soft and smoother to the touch. I go through cotton squares fairly quickly so I will be sticking to the cheaper ones for now. I like having a bag on hand for my nicer toners.
Repurchase: Yes

Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant - Nothing exciting here. I do love this deodorant. Use it daily and you won't sweat at all!
Repurchase: Yes! It's a staple!

Johnson's Baby Shampoo - For my brushes. I hate this. It smells horrible and I usually have to go over it 2-3 times before my brushes are clean. I think regular shampoo works just fine and it has a better smell. I can't say I am particular worried that it will ruin my brushes as some people have said.
Repurchase: No!

Phew! Not too bad a month I have to say. I found a new staple so all in all it has been a good month for me. I have a few products that didn't make it in May but hopefully they will be gone in June! ^^

I know I have been MIA this month. I been having issues getting good pictures to show clear detail. Also I will be in Costa Rica the first two weeks of June. Don't know if I will be able to post just yet but I will try!

Summer Time!

Right now, Ari and I are sailing through the first wave of summer heat in NYC.  In celebration of the "hot" time, I took a note from Miss Pop and got myself some watermelons!

Loving this Song

I been really MIA recently but I thought I would share a song I have been loving.

I don't like the original by Maroon 5 but this cover is absolutely amazing. It has been on repeat for 2 days now. Check them out!

Tops and Tails

I picked this up per recommendation from Liz. I thought it was a very good deal. They are both full size and individually they cost $18 each. This set cost $25. There was a sale going on at and I got mine for $20.

I tried the base coat on its own today and it gives your nails a nice smooth finish that is semi-matte. I can't wait to see how polishes perform with this on!

Edit: I am loving the base coat so far! I sometimes apply just a base coat on my nails to strengthen them but does anyone notice that your base coat chips like regular nail polish? Well not this one!!! It applies and then disappears. My nails are left smoooootthhh and matte and even a little harder! I will be doing a comparison post shortly. =D

Natural Canvas

Hi y'all!  I'm Jenn whom Ari had foolishly entrusted in sharing her log in to this blog!  But joking aside, Ari and I have been friends for over 10 years.  You can tell from her posts we meet up quite often to eat.  Everytime she sees me, I have a different nail design on my ten fingers.  I usually repaint my nails every two weeks which is how long it takes for them to chip off (thanks to the power of a good top coat).

I grew up with aunts and cousins giving me "kiddy" nail polishes (i.e. Barbie brand and peel off).  I think my love and enjoyment of decorating my nails began in college.  It was a great stress reliever during those crazy midterms and finals.  I'm still an amateur in this field but nail design/art is popular now.  I doubt I'll ever be able to catch up.  But my aesthetic is funky old school which means I don't use fancy tools, never done gel and no acrylics.  I like to have my nails short and round.  I absolutely love bright colors and sparkles!  I'm a big believer that our nails are small natural canvases that contributes to showing off our individuality.

Recently, I attended an Urban Outfitters nail art event.  They were promoting a new nail set by Miss Pop (  Although I'm a nail design enthusiast, I don't read or follow nail bloggers.  So I wasn't familiar with Miss Pop before this event but she's huge amongst nail bloggers.  She is funny, sweet, friendly, intelligent and bubbly.  I can keep going with more adjectives but you get the point.  She taught our class watermelon, rose and leopard print designs.  All the materials used during the class were free for us to take home!  A few days after the event, I used her nail set to do my nails (picture below).  Generally, I'm not a big fan of the color pink but I like how all the colors in the set compliments each other.  As I was looking at the nail set, I didn't think the dark teal goes well with the baby pink but it does!  It comes to show how important it is to be open minded and experimental.  These are damn good nail polishes because I've had them on for almost two weeks and they're still going strong.

Edit: Jenn had some technical errors so hopefully everything is showing up clearly now. =D

Quick Rant

Why doesn't blogger have an iPad app?

Why doesn't blogger work on safari?

I been so pissed off because my laptop isn't back from repair yet and of course it's one of those things where they say it's not their fault and just make you wait. And since blogger doesn't work on the iPad, my blogging life has come to a complete fail.

On another note, I saw this 53in teddy and I so desperately wanted to take it home with me. Only problem is I don't know where to put him!!!

My name is Ari. I am 25 years old and I love Teddys. It's a problem......

Red Egg

I went to this place a while back but I never did the Foodie Adventure post on it.

202 Centre St
(between Howard St & Grand St)
New York, NY 10013

My quickie review. It's average Chinese food with better plating. I wouldn't recommend this place but I wanted to give my two cents because this is a popular place for tourists and unsuspecting people looking for good Chinese food.

Some appetizers to start.

Hot and Sour soup

Entrees: We only ate half of it. They weren't very good at all

I can't believe they sold this off a dessert....

This had way too much ginger.

Please do not be fooled!

Mussels & More

A quick Foodie Adventure post.

This Adventure takes is to

8001 5th Ave
(between 80th St & 81st St)
Brooklyn, NY 11209
(718) 680-3390

Fried Calamari
served with marinara sauce

 Crab Cakes 2
maryland lump crab cakes served with vegetable slaw

 Grilled Octopus
served with our olive oil

I remember this beer being pretty bitter

chorizo, sweet peppers, spanish olives, red wine, tomatoes

lobster, brandy tomato, garlic, cream

clams, andouille, tomatoes, garlic, red wine

 Seafood Paella
served with shrimp, mussels and calamari

served with risotto and vegetables

We also ordered a half a dozen oysters and little neck clams but they took forever to come and I forgot to take pictures.

The only thing that was memorable was the Grilled Octopus. The service was pretty poor. Our waiter was nowhere to be seen most of the time and the restaurant itself didn't have to many tables and certainly it wasn't a busy day so I don't understand the lack of service. The paella was absolutely HORRIBLE! I can't even begin to believe how they can even call this paella. The mussels being the selling point of this restaurant was just okay. Nothing overly spectacular. However I would go back just for the Grilled Octopus. I can say it is one of the best I ever had!
