Bliss Daily Detoxifying Facial Toner Review

"Bliss Daily Detoxifying Facial Toner is a gentle formula that smoothes, moisturizes, and provides potent antioxidant protection against smoke, smog, and other environmental toxins. Get your skin ready to make the most of your serums, moisturizers, and cosmetics so you get the best bang for your buck. Think of it as one small step for you, one giant leap for your skin."

I love toners. I could not wash my face and just use toner.

I had a sample of the Best of skin intentions moisturizer and I really liked it. I considered purchasing it one day, if I ever ran out of moisturizers that I have. I really wanted to try something from their line.

I am always on the look out for the next great toner. The description suckered me in. Reduces pore size hydrating, and removes dirt and smog etc etc. At $26 it wasn't so bad when compared to the Shiseido White Lucent toner that I like.

When I tried it in the store the smell was pleasant and it did seem to clean my face of the dirt that comes with living in New York City.

I used it at most 3-4 times. The smell lingered on my skin for the longest time. I don't mind scented toners, however the scent on this just lasts too long. I would say a good 90 minutes maybe more.

The consistency is not completely water. It is a bit gel like. It swirls around the bottle like water, however when you pump it out, its almost like a watery gel. I use about 2-3 pumps on a cotton pad. The liquid doesn't spread on the cotton pad. It just dilutes the area and doesn't spread, which makes me use more product to dilute the whole pad.

As I was reading the ingredients I noticed that it contained a lot of different types of parabens. At least 5 ingredients were parabens.

After using it I feel like there is a layer of product on my face and I hate the feeling. I don't feel clean and I have the urge to go over it with another toner to mask the smell and remove the layer.

As for tightening pores, I do feel my face is a bit tighter after using the product but no noticeable improvements in pore size. However I can't say I used it long enough to tell. I returned the item to Sephora and purchased the Claudalie toning lotion to try. I am currently finishing up my Sephora brand Face refreshing toner. Review will be up soon.

Packaging: 8/10 (clear bottle with pump, sanitary and you can see your product)
Price: 7/10 ($26 isn't too bad for a decent toner)
Results: 7/10 (I felt a tightening effect on my skin, not long enough to see pore reduction)
Scent: 1/10
Texture: 3/10

Mac SlimShine in Missy

I always assumed Mac slimshines were closer to tinted chapstick. Was I wrong! At least in the case of Missy it is definitely pigmented and smooth to apply. It is not drying not very moisturizing either.

The color missy is a muted coral in the stick however on the lips it does give color. I have pretty pigmented lips and with this on you can definitely tell I am wearing something coral.

I do love the packaging, its very slim and sleek. I feel very sad that Mac discontinued these. However if you like this color you can purchase it here.

I highly recommend this site and as a bonus here is a discount code they sent me for my next order that I would love to share!

Holy Grail: Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus

What can I say....

You have to order this online and the place I found that offers the lowest price is $16.99

On my recent trip to Asia, I was able to pick up a few backups in Watsons for about $11 dollars... but I understand you pay the price for importation. QQ

What is so good about this mascara?

It holds a curl !
It is very black!
It lengthens!
It adds volume! (a small amount)

Only downside is it is hard to remove, however with either Lancome's Bifacil or MUFE Sens'Eyes I have no problems. And to achieve this result, I do not mind the trouble. Afterall being able to hold a curl on my lashes is close to impossible!

Color: 10/10
Curl: 9/10
Lengthening: 10/10
Volume: 8/10
Results: 10/10
Packaging: 9/10
Price: 7/10 $17 (Must order online or check your nearest Asian mart)
Scent and Texture: 9/10 (not much of a scent)
Repurchase: Yes (Almost done with my second tube and I have three backups!)
Holy Grail: Yes

The Pencil Liner Showdown....

Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in Zero
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes 0L
Milani Liquif'Eye 01 Black

A picture is worth a thousand words....

The picture is a bit washed out.... but in life the Milani one is the darkest out of the three.

Color Payoff
1. Milani
2. Urban Decay

I do not like to smudge my liner and I do not want my liner to smudge. However I understand there is no such thing as a smudge proof liner. Out of the three the Milani was the most forgiving.... even when smudged the residue under my eye was the lightest with urban decay being the worst and fastest to run.

Smudge and Run:
1. Milani
3. Urban Decay

As for staying power the milani lasted almost 6 hours with little fading and MUFE approximately 4-5 hours and the Urban Decay 3 hours. (on my upper waterline)

Staying Power:
1. Milani
3. Urban Decay

All three liners are very smooth and almost resemble a kohl liner. However they require frequent sharpening.

Difference is minuscule.

1. Milani $7-9
2. MUFE $17
3. Urban Decay $17

Over all I love the Milani the most. I am very surprised it beat the higher end liners. Although I am still weary, unless I find a better liner I will repurchase the Milani liner. Although I have plenty of pencils to get through....

Makeup Forever Smoky Lash Review

MakeUp Forever Smoky Lash promises....

A mascara that gives the lashes curl, volume, length and intense pigment. This ultra-pigmented mascara was specially designed to give the lashes an exceptional volume-enhancing effect with infinite lengthening and immediate curling.

My thoughts on this mascara....

Extra Black
I do believe it is the blackest and darkest mascara I have ever tried and I doubt I will find another comparable one in terms of the depth of color and it is intensely pigmented. HOWEVER, after a few hours of wear, I always notice this black circle right under my eye. This is caused is because my lashes touch the skin right under my eye and after a few hours of normal blinking the color from the mascara rubs off under my eyes so it is very apparent that my makeup has bled.

It coats your lashes and thickens them. If you ever tried L'oreal Voluminous, this is far superior.

It does have a bit of lengthening properties but this can not be called a lengthening mascara but it does offer a little boost this is area.

This mascara cannot hold a curl for more than 20 minutes. It's thick formula makes my lashes droop back to its natural slick straight down state. Now I would like to mention my lashes point straight down and I spend a lot of time curling them however this mascara does not hold a curl. Now if you have lashes that are naturally curled this will not droop your natural lashes it just will not hold a curl.

The brush is very similar to the L'oreal Volumious brush with tighter brushes and less spacing. I think the design of this brush causes clumping because you cannot really brush through your lashes with it, it just deposits product onto your lashes.

Other Thoughts:
Now if you read other reviews you might be reading over and over that this mascara has a tendency to clump. It is a very wet formula and it does take time to dry. It does clump a bit but if you spend a little more time on it, you can get wonderful results. Like I mentioned earlier, with the brush design it is not made to comb through your lashes just to deposit product with I feel is the problem to the clumping. To combat the problem of curling, I usually apply a mascara that does hold my curl, (Rimmel Sexy Curves non waterproof) and apply smoky lash on top. It still droops my lashes but not as badly.

Overall I did like this mascara at first because of its truly extra black and does give you a smoky lash effect. (Hence the name) However for my specific needs, a mascara that holds a curl is more important than anything else. If holding a curl is not a problem for you then definitely give this mascara a try!

Color: 10/10 (Blackest black you will ever find)
Curl: 2/10
Lengthening: 8/10
Volume: 10/10 (Great for Volume)
Results: 7/10 (If holding a curl is not important to you then 9/10)
Packaging: 8/10
Price: 7/10 $22 (Not bad for a "high end" mascara)
Scent and Texture: 8/10 (not much of a scent)

Bare Escentuals BareMinerals Matte SPF 15 Foundation Review

I wanted to talk about the Bare Escentuals bareMinerals® Matte mineral foundation. This was my very first mineral foundation and I love it. I have never tried the original formula but I have read that it makes a lot of people break out. This matte one intrigued me and Sephora had a mini set with a kabuki and I was sold!

I purchased this in early November and I still have yet to finish it. I do not use this everyday, about 4 days a week. I would say I still have a decent amount left. (At least a month and most likely even more)

I purchased the mini set above and it comes with a kabuki and .05oz of product. (Full size is .2oz) I would like to make it clear right now if your going to buy this DO NOT buy the one with the kabuki. It is scratchy and pokes my skin and I do not like it at all!!!

Foundation on the other hand, I do love. Does it keep my face matte? Yes and no. It keeps the majority of my face matte, all except for my nose. Now keep in mind, I have normal skin all except for my shiny nose. (It bothers me and I am looking for a solution) I am not sure how much coverage I should be expecting but I can say that it evens out my skin tone and covers a good amount of redness that I have.

Lasting power is okay. I would say five hours give or take. I do not use a primer just a moisturizer. Early in the morning I do not have the time nor would I want to apply on so much gunk on my face. *wink*

Now I mentioned that the kabuki in my mini kit is horrible, so you might wonder how I apply it. I use the E.L.F. studio flat top powder brush. (I LOVE THIS BRUSH! I have two!) The brush is extremely dense and soft and I usually do 3 taps. One tap for each cheek and one last one for my forehead nose and chin. I just swirl my brush in the cap after each tap and apply in circular motions on my face. (Buffing it in)

Lastly I want to add that I have to wear blush afterwards so I would appear less pale. Now it does not wash me you per say however I am very very light skinned and when you cover up the redness I look even more pale than before. A little blush just brightens up my complexion.

Packaging: 8/10 (The full size has the swivel where you can "lock" it so it won't leak out)
Price: 8/10 ($28 dollars for the full size and it will last)
Coverage: Medium
Lasting Ability: 8/10
Results: 7/10 (Because it does not keep my nose matte)
Repurchase: Yes
Holy Grail: No (I would buy it again but it has yet to WOW me)

Shiseido White Lucent Line is Love! + New Packaging

My skin has just been irritated and throwing tantrums at me lately. I guess it is my own fault, I tried to give the BeautyMaker items another try and I think it is time to find them a good home.

On another note... after caving in and opening a new tube of my Shiseido cleanser I quickly followed up with my whole Shiseido routine.

(I also have a sample of the serum that I use on my sunspots.)

I love this line so very very much <3.

The last item the cream retails for $98 dollars which I know is pricey but it is well worth it. A fairly thick cream, I only use this at night and when I wake up in the morning my skin feels supple, soft and smooth. What more can you ask for???

On a separate note, Shiseido has repackaged and reformulated their White Lucent line and I am super excited! But I have to wait till I finish my current items. QQ

I am most excited that the items now come with a pump! So much easier than just pouring the product out, but I think the old packaging while not as convenient is more stunning.

One thing I am not excited about is the increase in price. Okay its re-formulated so technically it is a new product but seriously?? My old emulsion was $54 dollars for 3.3fl oz.and the new one is $59 dollars for 2.5fl. oz. So not only are you getting less product it is more expensive.... My excitement has suddenly faded....

Old Packaging ~ 3.3 fl oz.                                                                       New Packaging ~ 2.5 fl. oz.

You get what you pay for

I was trying to finish up my Aveeno cleanser... almost half done... and I can't take it anymore.... I had to go back to my Shiseido. Aveeno cleans and whatnot but after using the Shiseido, my face looks brighter and feels so soft and smooooothhhhh! I can't help but rub my face!

With that quick rant, I leave you with a quick quote....

You get what you pay for.

High end goods prevail not only because there are suckers out there but because well they are worth it.

Kevin BeautyMaker Aquamarine Hydrating Serum Review

Watching reviews from Mel and Fuz, I couldn't resist the Kevin BeautyMaker Aquamarine line....

So I placed an order on

First one I would like to talk about is the Hydrating Serum....

Price on Imomoko: $19.99 for 30ml

You can watch Fuzkitte's video, she gives a good representation of product.

Ari's Take on it.
It's a gel consistency, is heavily scented (rose scent???) and even though its very light it is also very hydrating. I was very surprised at its hydration. It says its a serum but I don't feel its very serum-like....? I just see it as a moisturizer.

I do like this product. I wanted to love it....but I don't. The scent lingers way too long and it gives me a headache. This product has taught me that I am not a fan of rose scented items.... and I think it is making me break out! *sniff*

Packaging: 8/10
Price: 6/10
Results: 8/10 (even though it made be breakout the hydration results were good)
Scent: 3/10 (Rose scented)
Texture: 10/10
Repurchase: No
Holy Grail: No

Overall if your not allergic to this, it is a good product. I am not into scented items where the scent lingers. It was hydrating enough that I would recommend it to others but I would note, it did make me break out... which is sad ... QQ

FTC Disclosure: I am not sponsored or affiliated with any of the companies / websites listed above and all items were purchased with my own money.

Eyeliner and Recent Purchase! - Lancome Artliner

I have almost given up on pencil lining. It smudges like no tomorrow on my monolids. As for gel liner, I have yet to learn the precision to work with this product. Though I think I found a new way to line my waterline. A little more testing before I get into that.

I was playing with the cheapy ELF liner and as much as it was easy to use, I doubt it would last all day without smudging. (Though I have not tried it.)

Was planning on getting the raved drugstore eyeliner Maybeline Linear Intense. Thought I would wait for a BOGO before I purchase it and then I ran into this website.

(By The Way thats the card that came with my order, not sure when that code expires but feel free to use it! Sorry for the bad picture.)

They sell department store items and a very low price. Drop by and see if anything interests you!

After hearing over and over again how great Lancome Artliner was I decided to give it a try. The only thing that stopped me is the price. $29 dollars for an eyeliner. Since I was such a newb I didn't think it was a good idea to purchase it.... HOWEVER on beautyisrelative it was only $14.50! The Maybeline one was similar is price anyways so I decided to try it! (Not to mention FREE SHIPPING on all orders!!!)

(My very first Swatch! xD)
I just recieved it today and my first thoughts are the pigmentation is good. Very Black. It applied very smoothly and it came out pretty well even for a newb like me. However after I applied it and it smudged when I relaxed my eyelids. (Monolid fold) So we can say it has a very wet consistency. Ran the swatch on my hand over water and it ran. Not very waterproof. Detailed review to come.....

My Favorite Cleanser: Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam Review

Wanted to say something about my current facial cleanser. I did mention my first was the Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser but it is not my go to cleanser. In fact, I do not like it all that much. My favorite cleanser (Thus far anyways) is the Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam.

I did not initially purchase this. My mom had gotten a one ounce sample and had given it to me. You need the smallest pea size amount. Rub your wet hands together and WOW. Foam galore. After rinsing it off it makes my face feeling baby butt soft and I do believe it does brighten and lighten my complexion. (At least for the few hours after washing)

Now, going on to the brightening and whitening part. It is part of Shiseido's Whitening line so do I see any whitening. I have very very pale skin to begin with. The reason I use Shiseido's White Lucent line is not to make myself all the more pale, but to even out my complexion and discoloration. I also have a few freckles that I wish would disappear.

Overall It is not a miracle worker, You will notice an initial Brightening and Whitening effect. Is it long lasting? You will not turn super pale but it does even out my skin enough that I would say it works. But I must note, this is something that is seen over time and does not become apparent within the first week or so. I would say give it 2-3 weeks.

I did get another one ounce sample with a Shiseido kit I purchased at Macy's and one more from Sephora with my beauty insider points.

Would I purchase this item again. Most definitely. I would say this cleanser is holy grail material. It will be hard to top this product in my book.

Packaging: 8/10
Price: 7/10
Results: 9/10
Scent and Texture: 10/10

My Skin and Cleansing

I am slightly embarrassed (and slightly proud) to say that I purchased my first facial cleanser the summer of 2009. I was 22 years old and up till that point I only washed my face with water and a washcloth. I never saw the point of using a cleanser. Why am I slightly proud you might ask? Because I had decent skin and there was no need. I did not wear makeup on a regular basis so water was more than enough for me. SO why the sudden change? I started wearing foundation because of the redness and uneven skin tone I was getting due to constantly blowing my nose. Makeup removing cloths left residue on my skin that seemed to bother me. My first cleanser? Aveeno positively radiant cleanser.

Skipping forward, what is my current routine? I do not wash my face with cleansers everyday. Sounds disgusting doesn't it? Bet a lot of people have the chills right about now.

I believe everyone's skin is different. For me, washing my face everyday offers no additional benefit. In fact I would like to keep the "tolerance" of my skin at its current level. After all stripping your skin of oils everyday cannot be good for it.

I would like to note, the days that i wear a decent amount of concealer or foundation, I will first take off my makeup with a makeup removing cloth and then cleanse with my cleanser.

What started it all.

Hi and welcome to A Passionate Obsession!

My name is Ari and I have been inspired. At different points in your life you obsess over different things.

My beauty obsession began with a cold. A runny nose and a cough that would not go away. The worst part of it all was I looked worse than I felt...which is pretty bad in itself. On a single trip into Sephora with a friend I discovered the magic of foundation. And thus it all began. My makeup Obsession.

I love food and I love to eat! Living in New York City and being an avid  lover of traveling, I love to try food in from different places in different places. My motto is "I will try anything once". Especially if it comes to food! I am not a food critic in anyway I just love to share good food. Once in a while you might even see me attempt some recipes!!! Though most of the time they will be desserts. *wink *wink*

A Passionate Obsession was created as a medium to allow me to record and share my experiences. I hope you enjoy my world.~~
